The Kabyle–English dictionary

Kabyle ⇄ English, both ways

Anelmad is a free dictionary of Kabyle (Taqbaylit) and English. Kabyle is an Amazigh (Berber) language, one of the Tamazight languages, spoken in Kabylie, Algeria, and by Kabyle communities around the world.

Look up a word in either direction: the dictionary has more than a thousand entries, and new ones are added regularly.

Forms and examples

Each entry gives the part of speech, the plural and feminine forms and, for many words, example sentences in both languages, so you can see how a word is really used.

Example: izem (lion) →

Word families and word map

Kabyle words are built on roots. Anelmad groups the words that share a root into a family, and the word map shows, branch by branch, how a word connects to others.

Typing Kabyle letters

Kabyle is written in the Berber (Amazigh) Latin alphabet, with letters such as ɛ, ɣ, č and ḍ. Tap the keys above the search box to type them: no special keyboard needed.

Choose the direction under the search box: English–Kabyle or Taqbaylit–Taglizit.
